Jonathan, There is a novel bursting to come out of this essay. Walter Cronkite would love it. Think about it. And I love your beetle back simile.

Even reading his name conjures a sense of calm. and trust. Oh, if only he were still here. I don't believe it matters if people know who he was. Your fine character development can do the trick. Hmm?

So many things I remember from my youth are time specific like Bonanza, Vegi-Matic, Walter Cronkite, Kennedy...It's hard to know how that translates to younger generations. But you may be right about focusing on character devlopment.

Well said, as usual, Johnny. There was that childhood thing of knowing you were somehow in the wrong place, or the wrong time and wanting out, not knowing where you'd go to or why, and the ambivalence of loving the wrong place without loving its wrongness. And not knowing why.
