We're at a similar jumping off place. I'm thrown back to just me, still feeling the struggle to escape who they said I was and get to who I'm trying to be. I feel rushed. I'm not teetering close to death--but I can see it pretty clearly from here. We came from such different "bowls" -- almost opposite. You describe a rich, hot southern mess of fear & passion. My bowl was cool, empty, colorless and sterile. I feel good making art and and the last few years occasionally writing. I love reading your work, though I do often make it all about me.
Thank you, Joan, for the question. There is so much more I'll probably say about this topic since the entire writing sage is my hero's journey of sorts.
Love, love, love this! So many of the same gurus in common. Remember when I followed one to Southern California seeking fame and fortune, finding neither?
Ah, the beautiful, terrible arc of life. Finally, yes and YES to the “stillness of self and simplicity of being”! JUST BEING.
I'm so glad this spoke to you, Kevin. Sometimes, I feel like I'm just babbling, unsure if I'm connecting with others. And yes, I do remember DGN. I went to CA for a personal audience, hoping to get annointed. Having your own personal guru was so "in."

I love your bowl descriptions. I love both your art and your writing. You go for the heart.
Wonderful. The bowl of fruit analogy is everything! You finally answered my question about writing. And you do it so well.

I love it. Not quite my quest, but I love the fruit bowl metaphor and the deep honesty. Gives me a lot to think about.
Thank you, Mary Lois. I love hearing about your quest as well.
Wait til you get the one I'm sending out today. I hope you'll think it's valid.
